Course Curriculum

Weeks 1-3: Drawing
Pencil is one of the most versatile and widely used mediums in art. Learning to draw in pencil is a practical foundation on which to develop your artistic ability. Our course begins with step-by-step drawing lessons that cover the fundamentals of creating art. We start with observation, shading, and perspective. Learn how to break down complex images into simple shapes and build strong foundations in pencil sketching.

Weeks 4-5: Pastels
Oil pastel lessons are exciting and fun. Oil pastels are vivid in colour and rich in texture, but they are also very expressive and freeing to use. If ever you thought these were like crayons, think again! These are a portable alternative to oil paint – the brainchild of Picasso! Discover the vibrant world of pastels! You’ll experiment with layering, blending, and colour theory.

Weeks 6-8: Watercolour
Watercolour is a popular medium because it is highly portable and versatile. We love the effects that can be achieved with watercolour paints – their transparent and luminous qualities can be used to make some exceptional pieces of art. Learn traditional and modern watercolour techniques, from washes and gradients to detail work. This section focuses on landscapes, flowers, and natural scenes—perfect for relaxation and creativity.

Weeks 9-12: Acrylics
The fourth and final module consists of four weeks of acrylic painting. We begin our acrylic painting classes at the grassroots, learning about the texture and qualities of the medium, before exploring application techniques like impasto, dry brushing, and glazing. You'll learn to work on canvas and bring your creative vision to life.

Week 13: Mounting
You will need to bring your entire portfolio of coursework back into class because we are going to do something exciting! With the help of your tutor, each student will pick their favourite pieces of artwork and be shown how to mount them with temporary, easily detachable paper window mounts, so that it looks professional and showcases your art off to its very best

Week 14: Exhibition
At the end of your wonderful 14-week journey together, we mark the occasion with something truly special — your very own art exhibition!
This is your chance to celebrate your progress, show off your amazing work, and share the experience with your new art buddies, your family, friends, and the local community. We promote the event locally, so it’s also a great opportunity to build confidence in displaying your art — and who knows, for those with a serious spark, it might even lead to commissions!
Refreshments and nibbles will be served as we gather to admire the colourful display of everyone’s hard work. Over the past few weeks, you’ve been building your personal portfolio — now it’s time to see it all beautifully mounted and proudly presented.
It’s also a wonderful moment to meet students from the other classes, swap stories, and look back on how far you’ve all come since that very first day with a pencil in hand and a few nerves in your tummy!
Each student receives a Seasons Graduation Certificate, and at the end of the event, you’ll take home your artwork and portfolio — a tangible reminder of just how far you’ve come.
So, bring your cheer squad — family, friends, neighbours — everyone is welcome!
Let’s celebrate art, growth, and creativity together!
